How working offline works, and what's still waiting
The app does not need a signal to work: notes, photos, signatures, estimates and payments are saved on the phone first, then sent to the office when it can reach it.
Steps
- Work as normal. The note and signature screens say Saved on the phone first, then sent., or that you are offline and it will be sent when there is a signal.
- Watch the bar at the bottom of every screen:
- Up to date and a time: everything has reached the office.
- Offline, or a count such as 2 writes · 3 photos waiting to send: waiting means safe on this phone and not sent yet. Nothing is lost by being offline.
- Syncing…: it is sending now.
- Tap Sync now on the bar to send straight away. The app also tries by itself every minute and each time you open it.
- For the detail, tap the menu at the top of the jobs screen, then Sync and diagnostics. It shows what is waiting, each photo in the queue and how far it has got, and the last syncs.
- If the office asks, tap Send report on that screen and choose where to send it.
Good to know
- Photos are counted apart because they take longer. Check the bar before you drive away from signal.
- With the app closed, the phone sends what is waiting from time to time, at least fifteen minutes apart, when the phone allows it. On iPhone, photos that were uploading keep going for a while after you leave the app.
- Refused (for example 1 refused — a person has to look) means the office's system said no to a change, such as one for a job you are no longer on. The change is taken off the phone and sending again will not bring it back. Tap Details to see what it was, and tell the office.
- 1 payment taken and refused — needs sorting out means you took money the office would not accept. Open the job's Payment screen to see what to do.
- 1 edit replaced someone else's — tap to review means you and someone else changed the same thing. Tap Review to look.
- If the phone has not connected for many days, a banner asks you to connect. After that it stops taking new work until it connects. What you already saved is kept and sent.
- Signing out with work waiting asks first. Tap Stay signed in until it has gone.
